Maelle de Morlaix
Guardian of Coerthas
Within a foreign vale, a thicket of perilous green--the depths of which lay hidden beneath an engulfing treetop--forgotten secrets await. Were one to pass through and meet the grand valley beyond, a village of peculiar nature would come to view. This village is one such forgotten fable, its oaken, trussed façades immediately reminding of a fairy tale. This hamlet is decadent, yet glimmering with radiant faith. Stagnant, yet bridled with hope. And, although it is a traditional place, holding to its private ideals, the denizens within are a merry folk. The frolicking fields of evergreen grass are constantly towing some manner of playing children into view, and the muddy pathways into the village travelled by hard-working laborers. The villagers of Morlaix adhere lovingly to their their feats, their feasts, and their festivals. A select few protect this calm, blessed by a local patron in duty and ability. These few, named as Guardians, would seek eternal, everlasting beauty to the region. One girl holds true to these dreams as if it were a duty more important than her own life, grasping to these distant scruples of an old age...

-- Concept --
A true guardian of her village, Maelle's background is one of fable: Sent by the village elders to the vale neighboring the village, Maelle sought the blessing of the Maiden of Maidenmere Glen. Although young when she was ushered into the treacherous Glen, Maelle fought with tooth-and-nail to earn her spot in the village's tradition. She faced many challenges, tests of heart and of vigor, tests that would have brought those of much grander stature to ruin and death. It was Maelle, however, that was able to bear the full weight of the Maiden's psychological and physical challenges and endure. A year later, she emerged forever-changed, but victorious. For, if she were to have failed the forest deity's challenges, she would not have returned at all.
-- Appearance --
The silhouette of Maelle is one of relative simplicity, unremarkable despite a number of faint areas of interest. Standing at an average height, er poise and stance, generally welcoming in stature as would be a resting stream, is often strengthened by animated postures or ornate armour. Her movements, just as her verbiage, mimick the various emotions and indications that Maelle shows.Momentous and thoughtful are her glances, at times a clouded mirror of unbridled divinity... Whether denoting some kind of inopportune augury or passionate goal, Maelle's visage is certainly one of a pleasant nature, whether aloof or friendly. The prettiness of her overall appearance, then, is quite similar to this aforementioned, avid nature-- Despite a few flaws, such as the sickening scar across her brow and a number of darker, misplaced freckles, Maelle is somewhat pretty and, above all else, displaying in some youth. It is as if her skin glows at times, not unlike the pillars of refracting, golden light that fall from the stained-glass windows of a cathedral at sunset.

𓆰 Prophetic Scroll 𓆰
Often attached to her travel pack via small straps and encased in a hardened, leather bound scrollcase, this parchment displays a grand tree, sprawling about with a small rune above the roots. Beneath it reads, '--so wondrous wild, the whole might seem, the scenery of a fairy dream,' as the initial bit seemed to have faded with time.
𓆰 Oakeshott Typology XIII Longsword -- 'Ice Brook' 𓆰
This sword, gifted to her from the village 'smith, is of simple, yet elegant structure. Its parallel lines offset a broad appearance, tipped to the end by a round point. The entirety of its blade's length then reach thirty-six ilms. It was said by the village elders to have been tempered in the frigid waters of the Maidenmere Lake. Inlaid within the pommel of the sword is a crystal.
A Period of Prosperity
" ... "
Following Maelle's return from her five-year hiatus in the forest, she underwent the ceremony and was dubbed a Guardian of Morlaix. Ever would it be her duty to protect the village, its forest, and its cultural significance, all at the behest of the Maiden of Maidenmere Glen. And so, Maelle still saw no reason to depart her home and explore greater Eorzea. Ever watchful of the dangers of the Vale's native beasts and humanoid foes, Maelle stood guard to defend her home from ruin. Furthermore, she often convened with the Elders to entreat the Maiden of Maidenmere Glen in ceremonies for bountiful harvests and more.Although life in Morlaix remained prosperous, quaint, and successful, the Elders harbored the perspicacity to know it would not last-- Perhaps it was their forest dogma, a prophetic forewarning to the potential disaster that would come. There was a prophecy, in fact, albeit too vague to foreshadow what would come next for the entirety of Hydaelyn.
--Script, Dated 1570, Seventh Umbral Era--"In the year 1272 of our calendar, in the Sixth Astral Era, the village of Morlaix was established along the pleasant banks of the Maidenmere Lake. In what is now considered the Coerthas Eastern Highlands, the area surrounding Maidenmere Lake had been considered unreachable, for the Maiden Glen blocked much of the passageway to the grand lake. The Glen offered no man-or-mer made passageways, and harbored horrifying creatures of all kinds. Thus, it was not until a group of intrepid Hyuran settlers made way through the treacherous vale that the area was actually inhabited.During their trek through the dense forest, the settlers quickly realized a grave mistake. Not only were terrifying werekin, great beasts, and fluttering wyverns home to the forest, but elementals as well. The settlers were practically toyed with, confused and dazzled as they hobbled aimlessly. For none else than the farsighted leader, Alec le Vertueux, could see through the fog of uncertainty. It was through this fog that he met an uncanny ally, an armored woman. Radiating a nigh-blinding aura of golden rays, this woman gestured to the waning leader. It was her succor and her well-placed aid that led the Hyuran band through the forest to the other side.Although this dazzling figure of mercy and elegance disappeared following the horrifying venture, the Hyuran settlers and their leader, Alec, never forgot such a kindness. The lake by which they settled was dubbed 'Maidenmere,' in honor of the valorous 'deity' that led them to their new home. The village established grew and grew, cut-off from the outside world and the growing nearby Ishgard with naught more than the occasional trading or religious venture as contact. As these travelers such as traders or traveling bishops visited on later occasion, they found an odd amalgamation of our known Ishgardian culture and the village's own reverence of this grand -Maiden- of Maidenmere Glen."
"Although travelers that have visited the hamlet of Morlaix would tell you that the description and folk art of the village's divinity carries striking resemblance to Halone, the villagers often retort that she is a Goddess of her own. Is this Maiden of Maidenmere Glen a mere representative, or, an avatar-- chosen of the great divine Halone. Whatever the case, I have come to think that it is an elemental, quite possibly akin to those found in the Twelveswood. To know for sure, one would need to trek the deepest areas of the Maiden Glen. Or, perhaps, consult one of the 'Maiden's chosen' who have seen it themselves. That being said, she is believed to be a nurturing, saint-like figure to the locals. As one peasant expressed, that only certain- Nay, chosen individuals see the Maiden of Maidenmere Glen-- Those who undertake her grand quest into the Glen have seen her. It seems that one must pass a number of trials to witness her and, thus, receive her divine blessing."-The Hamlet of Morlaix and Other Explorations of Distant Coerthas,

-- Morlaix After the Calamity --
All was well for the peasant village in the distant valley until that fated day, when all of Eorzea was faced with a devastating disaster. The coming of the Seventh Umbral Calamity now meant that Morlaix suffers from the cold; An eternal winter wrought upon all of Coerthas. To this day, the village still holds dreams of the past, of green and of fantasy-- Of a time when Elders beseeched comfort and when children frolicked in flowing fields of wheat. The denizens of Morlaix were almost broken. Steeped in their resolve and pride, they were, luckily, not wiped out; Not struck from the map as other regions were. Instead, they were shielded from total ruin, and with it they have since begun gradually rebuilding. Maelle assisted in the effort, doing what she could, for some time, until the Elders beseeched her to look outwardly and seek her destiny abroad. With the coming of the great, Garlean towers spread across Hydaelyn, the Elders bestwowed upon Maelle a great quest. She was to travel to distant lands, beyond frozen plains and craggy mountains, to do what she could for the world. A staunch idealist, Maelle has traveled Eorzea on an errant quest, a lonely pilgrimage in search of ways to assist those in need, to bring good to world in the name of the deity that was good to her. A vessel of naïve and unwordly fervor, Maelle still searches for her place in the greater world.
In her initial adventures in Coerthas and Eorzea, Maelle devoted much of her time to searching for holy sites, learning of the world she had only read about, and meeting friends and allies.

Below are a number of themes and ongoing events that are marked in Maelle's life. They can be seen as potential hooks or simply as a refresher to Maelle's current adventures:
- - -
At the behest of the Elders' will, Maelle has departed from Morlaix and the Valley of Maidenmere. At first, she partook upon a pilgrimage across Coerthas's holy sites, evoking the rites and blessings of the various saints of the Halonic faith. Many sites were fabled in Morlaix's traditions and, as so, she has viewed it as a sacred and predetermined journey. Along the way, she has met various friends and compatriots.

I hope that you enjoyed this Carrd-- Although it is meant to provide information about Maelle, my FFXIV roleplay character, it is also used as an opportunity to express the emotion and aesthetic that I hope my character conveys. The end goal is of my roleplay and this Carrd is that my character will be multi-faceted, ever-growing, and complex. If you have enjoyed learning about her and are interested in meeting me, or Maelle, please consider contacting me on discord at lianuh. Thank!
Maelle's concept, as well as the idea of Morlaix, is a homebrew using previous 1.X zones and lore. Aside from this artistic liberty, I attempt to be as lore-compliant as possible and do not like to cause conflict in this matter. A detailed Carrd page for the homebrew is a work-in-progress.
I am a flexible roleplayer that enjoys a multitude of themes and types of roleplay, ranging from casual, combative, political, intrigue, horror, romance, or whatever else.I will not, however, tolerate transphobia, homophobia, racism, bullying, or anything else that is otherwise deemed horribly unjust and slimy.
